AUSBIMA signs MOU with the Arbitration Association of Brunei Darussalam .
On 6 December 2019, AUSBIMA board member William Lye OAM QC attended the Regional Arbitral Institutes Forum (RAIF) on International Arbitration in Brunei Darussalam. William spoke in Session 4 with 3 other distinguished panellists on ‘New trends of challenges made against arbitrators’. Click here for a copy of William’s paper.
The RAIF facilitates cooperation amongst arbitral institutes and arbitration practitioners in the South East Asian region. The keynote address was given by Justice Anselmo Reyes of the Singapore International Commercial Court. His Honour spoke about the need for the highest standards to be practised in both mediation and arbitration practice so as to curtail any growing dissatisfaction with processes run by people without the appropriate qualification.
There were insightful tips relating to overcoming delays in international arbitration; an insight into the new Singapore Convention and the interplay between arbitration and mediation; and the impact of the Belt & Road Initiative on construction and commercial arbitration in the Asia Pacific region.
It was a very productive and engaging RAIF hosted by the Arbitration Association Brunei Darussalam (AABD), with President Professor Dr Colin Ong QC warmly welcoming all the delegates from the ASEAN region.
AUSBIMA is pleased to announce that a Memorandum of Understanding was entered into between AABD and AUSBIMA to collaborate, promote, and develop teaching and research cooperation on Alternative Dispute Resolution in the areas of Arbitration, Mediation and Adjudication Law.
